Forest City Enterprises

Forest City Enterprises is not a typical real estate developer: family-owned, community-focused, and with deep expertise in developing facilities for biotech and science organizations, Forest City makes long-term commitments to building vibrant sustainable communities. They needed websites to grow and evolve with them.

Forest City | Boston's website is sophisticated and thoughtfully made — like their properties.

Filament Group first met real estate developer Forest City | Boston in early 2002, when they asked us to help them build a powerful website that communicates by example their tech savvy, focus on quality, attention to detail, and commitment to a larger mission of building strong, sustainable communities.

Forest City | Boston's flagship website prominently features their 27-acre mixed-use property, University Park at MIT. The site also strives to help visitors understand their commitment to building vibrant urban communities by supporting the complex needs of biotech and high-tech tenants, residential clients, and local citizens. We used rich-media to communicate enduring core values. An animated master plan offers a richly-layered campus tour — including multi-level maps, a vision statement, and basic building information — that showcases University Park's biotech and mixed-use facilities and the growth of the campus in its community over time. In the six months following launch, traffic to Forest City | Boston's site increased five-fold. Filament Group continues to help FC|B's management team extend the site as they expand and manage their portfolio.

The Forest City Science + Technology site is designed to grow as new properties are added.

By 2004, with the success of University Park as a bioscience campus, Forest City decided to leverage and extend its deep expertise in developing facilities targeted to the unique needs of biotech companies that also support larger integrated communities. They established a new business unit, Forest City Science + Technology Group, launched to deliver on bioscience-focused campus-oriented real estate development at a national level, and invited Filament to help them build a multi-site system to support this growing new division.

From the start, the Forest City Science + Technology Group site was envisioned and designed to balance both national and local messages, objectives and needs. The site navigation structure and messaging support easy movement from high-level features about the organization's development approach, ideology and capabilities to detailed campus-specific information about regional biotech clusters of expertise, local amenities, and location-specific leasing availability. Since launch, the division has expanded to include five distinct biotech campus properties across the country, and is poised to easily integrate new properties as they come online.
